Volleyball Defeats Delaware Valley in Straight Sets

Doylestown, Pa. (October 5) – FDU-Florham junior outside hitter Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) registered her fifth double-double of the season as the Devils swept Delaware Valley University by scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 tonight on the road.

FDU-Florham now sits at 5-8 overall and 2-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action, while Delaware Valley fell to 7-7 overall and 1-3 in league play.

DeFuria swung for a match-high 15 kills and added 14 digs in the win, while first-year Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) chipped in with nine kills. Defensively, graduate student Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) and first-year Julia Hudson (Bel Air, Md.) both registered 15 digs in the victory for the Devils.

Set 1: FDU-Florham led by a 20-18 score late in the opening set before going on 5-1 set ending run that featured two kills from both DeFuria and Hart in addition to a block by the same two student-athletes.

Set 2: The Devils used two lengthy runs to take set two by a 25-15 final. FDU-Florham raced out to an 8-2 lead and then followed it up with eight straight points to go ahead 21-9. A kill by Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) paired with an Aggies error gave FDU-Florham a 2-0 lead in the conference match.

Set 3: Delaware Valley scored the first five points of the third set, but FDU-Florham settled in and chipped away at its deficit. The Devils trailed 15-11 but went on a 12-3 run for a 23-18 advantage. The run was sparked by another three kills by DeFuria. Leading 23-20, DeFuria swung for her 15th kill of the night before Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) and Everett registered a block to complete the sweep.

FDU-Florham will return to the court tomorrow evening with a non-conference matchup at Lancaster Bible College at 7:00 pm.
