Volleyball Downed by Lancaster Bible, 3-1

Lancaster, PA (October 6) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team was downed by Lancaster Bible, 3-1, on Thursday night.

Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) posted a season-high 10 kills in the contest. Junior outside hitter Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) notched her sixth double-double game of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. Freshman middle blocker Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) led the team in kills with 11 while freshman libero Julia Hudson (Bel Air, MD) and junior outside hitter Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) each recorded double-digit digs with 19 and 17 respectively.

Set 1: The Devils started the match with three straight points before the Chargers scored its first point. Late in the set, Lancaster Bible held a 19-16 lead, but FDU was able to score three straight points to make the score 19-19. After a 20-20 tie, the Chargers scored five straight points to take set one.

Set 2: Both teams traded points until a kill by Fruscione sparked a four-point run for FDU to take an 8-5 lead. The Devils held the largest lead of the set at 18-14 but were never able to truly shake off the Chargers. The set went into extra points, 24-24 and after an exchange of points, two attack errors by the Chargers gave the set to the Devils to tie the match 1-1.

Set 3: FDU started the third set out hot with six straight points and held leads of 9-2, 10-5, and 13-7. The Chargers rallied back and took the lead 16-15 later in the set. Both teams played to a 22-22 tie before Lancaster took the set after three straight points, 25-22.

Set 4: The Chargers controlled most of the set fourth, holding leads of 6-2, 11-7, and 15-10. The Devils were able to tie the match, 16-16, but never took the advantage in the set and eventually fell 25-20 to end the match.

FDU returns resumes MAC Freedom play at the Ferguson Rec Center Tuesday, October 11, at 7:00 pm as it hosts Lycoming.
