Madison, NJ (October 11) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team defeated Lycoming College in straight sets by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-17 to improve to 6-9 overall and to 3-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play this season.
FDU-Florham was led by
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.), who tallied eight kills on the night, while
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) added seven kills and six digs to the effort. First-year
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) also registered career-highs in kills with five and digs with 14 for the Devils. Defensively,
Julia Hudson (Bel Air, Md.) led the way with 17 digs, while
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) registered 20 assists, three aces and 14 digs in the victory.
Set 1: Lycoming raced out to an 8-1 lead in the first but chipped away and too a 19-18 lead following a 7-2 spurt. Lycoming scored the next five points before FDU-Florham ended the opening stanza on a 7-1 run for the 26-24 win. The set ending run was capped by a kill from Freeman.
Set 2: Lycoming once again jumped out to an early lead before FDU-Florham went ahead 17-13 midway through the set following back-to-back aces by Ros. A kill by
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) gave FDU-Florham a 25-20 set two win and a 2-0 lead in the crucial conference contest.
Set 3: FDU-Florham led the third set from start to finish and led by as many as ten points at 21-11 following an 8-1 run that was sparked by a pair of aces from Freeman and two kills from Reiter. A kill by Hart secured the 25-17 set three win and the MAC Freedom sweep for the Devils.
FDU-Florham will step out of MAC Freedom play for a non-conference contest at Saint Elizabeth University on Thursday, October 13 at 6:00 pm.
