NJ (October 13) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team blanked Saint Elizabeth in non-conference action, 3-0 on Thursday night.
The Devils were led by junior outside hitter
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) who collected a team-high seven kills to go along with 10 digs and three service aces. First-year libero
Julia Hudson (Bel Air, MD) led the team in digs with 14 while graduate student setter
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) tallied 23 assists and eight digs.
Set 1: The Devils were firmly in control during the first set, jumping out to leads of 4-1, 8-3, and 14-6 early on. FDU later commanded a 21-9 lead and after the Eagles notched two points, the Devils scored four straight points including a service ace by first-year outside hitter
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) to close out the set for a 1-0 advantage.
Set 2: FDU jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the second set before surrendering a point. The Eagles clawed back after being down 8-3, scoring four of the next five points to make the score 9-7, but a kill by senior middle blocker
Sophia Miskulin (New Providence, NJ) sparked a seven-point run for the Devils to take a 16-7 advantage. The Devils held another 21-9 lead in the set and after Saint Elizabeth collected a point, the Devils closed out the second set the same as the first with four straight points to take a 2-0 edge.
Set 3: The Devils continued to dominant the scoreboard in the third set, including an eight-point run after a 5-2 advantage to take a 13-2 lead. The Eagles found a four-point run of its own before a bed set killed the momentum. FDU later took 21-11 command and after a back-and-forth point rally by both teams, first-year middle blocker
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) fired down the match-ending kill to seal the sweep for the Devils.
FDU continues on the road Saturday, October 15, for a matchup with SUNY Maritime at 1:00 pm.
