Madison, NJ (September 3) – FDU-Florham volleyball earned its first win of the 2022 season this afternoon against St. Joseph's (Long Island) in straight sets. The Devils won by set scores of 26-24, 25-12, 25-21 to push their record to 1-1 on the young season.
Graduate student
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) became the fourth student-athlete in program history to produce 2,000 assists with her 29 helpers on the day. She also eclipsed 700 digs for her career this afternoon as she has 2,006 assists and 714 digs in four seasons with the Devils volleyball program.
Junior
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) hit at a .367 clip with a match-high 13 kills and added 11 digs to her stat line for a double-double, while first-year
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) hit .389 with eight kills. Defensively, four Devils produced double-digit digs including Ros with a match-high 15 digs.
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ), Fruscione and
Julia Hudson (Bel Air, Md.) all registered 11 digs in today's match.
Set 1: FDU-Florham and St. Joseph's College played a tight first set and trailed 21-18 late in the stanza. The Devils, however, put together 4-0 run that was highlighted by a kill from Fruscione for a 22-21 edge. With the score knotted at 24-24, the Devils took advantage of back-to-back attack errors to win the opening set.
Set 2: The Devils raced out to a 15-2 lead in the second and never looked back en route to a 25-12 victory. That set opening run was sparked by three kills from DeFuria, two kills from both
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) and
Ellyn Pope (Collingswood, NJ) as well as an ace by
Emma Laramee (Williamstown, NJ). Laramee ended the set with another service ace for a dominant 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: In a back and forth final set, the score was knotted at 19-19. The Devils went on a 6-2 set-ending run that was highlighted by two kills from Hart as FDU-Florham secured its first win of the season and the 3-0 sweep.
As a team, the Devils hit .181 with 34 kills, seven aces, five blocks, 34 assists and 62 digs.
FDU-Florham will open Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00 pm against Arcadia University inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
FDU-Florham is currently running a campaign in honor of former Devils men's basketball head coach, men's golf coach and athletic director Roger Kindel.
