Madison, NJ (September 24) – The FDU-Florham football team fell to King's College (Pa.), 27-23, this afternoon in a Homecoming matchup on Robert T. Shields Field. The loss pushed FDU-Florham's record to 2-2 overall and to 0-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
FDU-Florham sophomore quarterback
Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) led the Devils offensively with 20 completions for 224 and a pair of passing touchdowns. The sophomore also rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown for three total scores on the day. Both
Connor Perez (Warwick, NY) and
Michael DeSantis (South River, NJ) pulled in touchdown passes from Thomas in the effort this afternoon.
Defensively,
Joseph Randazzo (Staten Island, NY) led the Devils with eight total tackles (two solo, six assisted) today, while
Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ) tallied five tackles, two for a loss, 1.5 sacks and a pair of quarterback hurries.
King's College took advantage of a fumble on the first drive of the game and quickly turned it into six points after taking over on the eight-yard line. Shemar Ellis punched the ball into the end zone before the extra point was blocked by FDU-Florham's
Marquez Haywood (Lindenwold, NJ).
After five empty possessions, King's took over near midfield and drove 46 yards that was highlighted by a 41-yard touchdown reception by Tyler Carey for a 13-0 advantage early in the second. FDU-Florham, however, quickly answered and knotted the game up at 13-13 on a 20-yard touchdown reception by DeSantis and a six-yard touchdown rush by Thomas.
The Devils took a ten point lead in the third after a 26-yard field goal by
Chris DiMedio (Cornwall, NY) and a 71-yard touchdown reception by Perez with 4:42 to play in the quarter. King's, however, scored touchdowns on back-to-back drives on a 72-yard pass to Carey and a 47-yard interception return by Teone Sherrod as the visitors went ahead 27-23 after three quarters.
FDU-Florham came up empty on its three possessions in the fourth as King's held off the Devils, 27-23, today in Madison.
The Devils will play their first MAC road game of the 2022 season next Saturday, October 1 at Misericordia University with kickoff slated for 1:00 pm in Dallas, Pa.
