Center Valley, Pa. (September 21) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team fell to DeSales University in four sets by scores of 18-25, 25-20, 18-25, 18-25 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday evening on the road.
The loss dropped FDU-Florham's record to 3-5 overall and to 1-2 in MAC Freedom play, while DeSales moved its record to 5-5 overall and to 1-1 in the league.
FDU-Florham was paced by
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) with a ten kill, 12 dig double-double, while
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) and
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) both posted seven kills apiece in the effort. Ros led FDU-Florham with 18 digs and 28 assists, while
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) and
Julia Hudson (Bel Air, Md.) ended their nights with 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
Set 1: After falling behind early 5-1, DeSales used two lengthy runs to win the first 25-18. DeSales trailed 7-5 and scored nine straight points for a 14-7 edge. The Devils were able to cut their deficit to just two points following an ace by Hart, but seven consecutive points gave set one to the hosts.
Set 2: FDU-Florham went ahead 6-5 early in the second following a DeSales error and never relinquished its advantage to tie the match at 1-1. The Devils strung together a 10-3 run to extend their lead to 17-9 that featured a kill and an ace from DeFuria, blocks by Reiter, DeFuria and Hart and an ace by Hart. DeFuria ripped two straight kills for the 25-20 set two win.
Set 3: The third set featured nine ties up until 11-11 when FDU-Florham took a 14-11 edge on a kill by
Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) and two DeSales errors. The hosts however, scored ten straight points and ended up winning the third 25-18.
Set 4: DeSales trailed 16-15 but scored ten of the final 12 points of the match for the 25-18 set four win and 3-1 match victory over FDU-Florham.
FDU-Florham will host Stevens in MAC Freedom play next Tuesday, September 27 at 7:00 pm in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
