Volleyball Swept By Stevens in MAC Freedom Action

Madison, NJ (September 27) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team fell in straight sets to Stevens Institute of Technology by scores of 28-26, 25-15, 25-17 tonight in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.

The loss dropped FDU-Florham's record to 3-6 overall and to 1-3 in MAC Freedom play, while Stevens improved to 13-4 overall and to 4-0 in the league standings.
 
Junior Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) led the way for the Devils with eight kills on the night, while Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) added five kills in the effort. Both Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) and Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) chipped in with four kills apiece. Defensively, DeFuria posted a team-high nine digs, while Fruscione tallied eight digs of her own in the setback.
 
Stevens was paced by 11 kills on 18 swings from Liz Patterson and a match-high 19 digs from Bailey Axelrad.
 
Set 1: FDU-Florham was able to put together a 6-2 run midway through the set thanks to kills from Hart, DeFuria and Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) for a 23-18 edge. Stevens, however answered with five straight points to tie the set at 23-23. Knotted at 26-26, the Ducks used a kill from Cleo Shannon and block from Megan Dion for the 28-26 win in the opening stanza.
 
Set 2: Stevens led 18-15 late in the second following a block by Hart and proceeded to rip off seven straight points to win the set 25-15.

Set 3: The visitors raced out to a 10-2 lead in the third and never relinquished their lead to complete the sweep. In the third, FDU-Florham was able to cut its deficit to as few as four points at 15-11, but Stevens immediately answered with an 8-2 run to put the set out of reach.
 
FDU-Florham will travel to Kean University for a non-conference matchup on Friday, September 30 at 4:30 pm in Union, NJ.
