Field Hockey Earns Strong 5-1 Season-Opening Victory at Drew

Madison, NJ (September 3) - The FDU-Florham field hockey started its season off with a strong performance, earning a 5-1 at Drew for the Drew University tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Devils wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with two goals scored in the first four minutes of the game at the 2:04 and 3:59 marks. Junior midfielder Rachel McHale (Montville, NJ) put in the first goal of the season for FDU off an assist from sophomore defender Morgan Keller (Toms River, NJ). First-year forward Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) extended the lead to 2-0, chipping a shot from the left post off an assist from sophomore forward Allie Serio (Scotch-Plains, NJ).

Drew cut the lead to 2-1 in the first quarter at the 11:25 timestamp on a shot from the middle.

Senior midfielder Lauren Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) scored two goals in the second quarter with assists from graduate student forward Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ) and first-year forward Erin Collins (Bridgewater, NJ) for a 4-1 advantage.

Flukey closed out the game for FDU in the fourth quarter, drilling a shot off her own rebound to seal the 5-1 victory.

The Devils dominated the offensive possessions, out shooting the Rangers, 19-8, and earning 15 penalty corners to Drew's three.

Junior goalie Emily Schlessinger (Asbury, NJ) earned the victory in the cage, tallying four saves.

FDU returns to Drew for the Drew University tournament Saturday, September 3 matching up with Cabrini at 3:00 pm.

FDU-Florham is currently running a campaign in honor of former Devils men's basketball head coach, men's golf coach and athletic director Roger Kindel.

All donations will go directly towards funding a complete renovation of the basketball and volleyball court inside the Ferguson Recreation Center with his name dawned on both sides.
