Dominique Rodriguez (Pittsgrove, NJ) registered the game's first goal just two minutes into the contest as she tipped the ball in off a long shot by Surgent. Prior to halftime, however, Misericordia knotted the game at 1-1, as Tatyanna Lainez finished a short pass in front of the cage by Lily Metress.
Misericordia took a 2-1 lead early in the fourth quarter off a penalty corner. Lainez lined up for the insert on the left side of the net and fed it to Meghan Radnoff at the top of the circle. Radnoff blasted the shot into the left side of the cage for the lead.
Less than two and a half minutes later, FDU-Florham graduate student
Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ) tied the game up at 2-2 as she put back
Rachel McHale's (Montville, NJ) original shot from the top of the circle that was blocked down in front of the keeper.
The Devils nearly won the game with under a minute to play in regulation, but a defensive save by Radnoff thwarted the attempt and sent the contest into overtime.
FDU-Florham took control early in the first overtime period as the Devils were awarded with three penalty corners. On the final attempt, Surgent drove through the Misericordia defense and blasted the ball into the cage for the 3-2 victory.
Both keepers in
Emily Prachthauser (Morristown, NJ) and Sarah Bogina made three saves apiece. Statistically, the match was even as FDU held a 12-11 edge in shots and both teams took 14 penalty corners.
FDU-Florham will step out of conference play on Wednesday, September 21 with a contest against Sage at 6:00 pm.
