Madison, NJ (August 1) – FDU-Florham has named head men's lacrosse coach
Pat Scarpello and head women's soccer coach
Kristin Giotta as Co-Interim Athletic Directors, effective immediately. Both will retain their head coaching duties with their respective teams, but both will also oversee the daily operations and compliance for the entirety of the FDU-Florham Devils Athletic Department and its 24 NCAA Division III sports.
"We would like to thank President Capuano and Robert Pignatello for their trust in us to fill the big shoes that will be left by our Athletic Director
Jenn Noon," said Scarpello and Giotta.
Scarpello, the winningest coach in program history and 2009 MAC Freedom Coach of the Year, started coaching men's lacrosse at FDU-Florham in 2002 and in 2018 was named Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations. In the Spring of 2021, Scarpello earned his 150th victory at FDU-Florham in a 9-8 overtime win over King's College on Senior Day. Scarpello has coached three FDU-Florham Hall of Famers and his 2009 team got inducted into the Hall of Fame last spring.
In 21 seasons, the Devils have reached the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Tournament 13 times, were crowned champions of the league in 2009 and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament at the conclusion of that season. Scarpello has coached 74 All-MAC Freedom selections as well as two All-America honorees and two Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) All-Region picks during his time in Madison.
"I wish
Jenn Noon the best in her new role and thank her for everything she has done for this department the past 18 years," said Scarpello. "I embrace this opportunity to continue to support our student-athletes on and off the field and provide them with the best experience possible while at FDU. Kristin and I will continue to work hard to make sure our student-athletes have everything they need in order to be successful here on the Florham Campus."
Giotta started coaching women's soccer at FDU-Florham in 2006. In 2018 was named Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and in 2019 took on the role as Senior Woman Administrator for the Devils Athletic Department.
Giotta, the 2010 MAC Freedom Coach of the Year, is the winningest coach in program history and has led the Devils to ten or more wins in eight seasons. FDU-Florham has made eight appearances in the MAC Freedom Tournament, eight appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament and has won two MAC Freedom Regular Season titles. Last fall, Giotta earned her 150th victory with the Devils in a 4-0 win over John Jay on September 25.
During her time in Madison, Giotta has coached 31 All-MAC Freedom honorees, four All-Region selections and four FDU-Florham Hall of Famers.
"The transformation of our department these past four years has been nothing short of amazing and we owe so much to our former leader. I am confident that
Pat Scarpello and I have the support from our respective colleagues, student-athletes, and the University to help continue the path of success within Devils' Athletics," said Giotta. "Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank
Jenn Noon for her many years of support, guidance, and belief in me as not only a colleague but as a friend. I wish her nothing but the best in her new chapter."
Both Scarpello and Giotta will assume these roles immediately while also maintaining their positions of head coaches for their respective programs on the Florham Campus.
