Madison, NJ (July 25) – FDU-Florham Co-Interim Directors of Athletics Pat Scarpello and Kristin Giotta have announced that Lauren Michel has been named as the next Head Athletic Trainer for the Devils. Michel has served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer on the Florham Campus since 2021 and will now lead the department and manage the health and safety of the Devils student-athletes on 24 NCAA Division III varsity teams.
 
"I am honored to be named the next head athletic trainer at FDU-Florham. I would like to thank Jenn Noon, as well as Coach Giotta and Coach Scarpello for giving me this opportunity and believing in me and the vision I have for the sports medicine department here at FDU," said Michel. "I would also like to thank my family and all the amazing fellow athletic trainers, coaches and colleagues that have mentored me. I am excited to continue my journey here at FDU in this new role and to provide the best possible care to our student athletes both mentally and physically."
 
Since she was hired as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at FDU-Florham, Michel has worked primarily with the women's soccer team, the men's and women's basketball teams and the baseball team and will now oversee a staff that will take care of over 500 Division III student-athletes on the Florham Campus.
 
"Lauren has a great rapport with our student-athletes and her experience this past year has given her the confidence to make a smooth transition to the role of Head Athletic Trainer," said Giotta. "We are very lucky to have her work with our 500+ athletes daily and I know she will do a phenomenal job."
 
"We are excited to have Lauren take over as the Head Athletic Trainer," said Scarpello. "She will do a tremendous job making sure all of our student athletes are taken care of on and off the field."
 
Michel graduated from Rutgers University in 2018 with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies and an Applied Kinesiology option. After finishing her undergraduate program, Michel attended Seton Hall University and graduated in the Spring of 2020 with a Master's of Science in Athletic Training.
 
As an Athletic Training Student, Michel spent time at Union High School, FDU, the New York Jets and Seton Hall. Starting at Union in 2018, Michel got her first experience working the football, soccer, volleyball and track and field programs. After Union, Michel joined the Devils staff in January 2019, assisting with men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, and men's and women's lacrosse.
 
From there, Michel spent six months with the New York Jets, helping the training staff with evaluations, first aid care, rehabilitation, hydration and application of modalities. Michel finished up as an Athletic Training Student at Seton Hall, working with men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, cross-country and swimming and diving.
