Hoboken, NJ (April 5) – The FDU-Florham men's tennis team was shutout by Stevens Institute of Technology, 9-0, in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opener on Tuesday afternoon on the road.
The FDU-Florham (3-2, 0-1 MAC Freedom) No. 1 double pairing of
Sergio De La Garza (Tijuana, Calif.) and
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) played a tight 8-6 match at the top of the lineup. Stevens ultimately swept doubles action with an 8-3 win at No. 2 and an 8-2 win at No. 3.
In singles play, the Ducks won four of six points in straight sets. The Devils fought at position No. 1 and No. 6 De La Garza and
Brandon Schwartz (Gladwyne, Pa.) took their respective matches to three sets. De La Garza was edged 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 1 by Sebastian Wroe, while Schwartz was edged by Brandon Li 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
Friday's non-conference match against Oneonta has been canceled. The Devils will return to MAC Freedom play on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 pm at home against King's College (Pa.).
