Madison, NJ (April 27) – The FDU-Florham men's tennis team was edged by Wilkes University, 5-4, in MAC Freedom action this afternoon. The Devils closed their MAC Freedom schedule with a record of 4-2 and will await the conclusion of Saturday's competition to hear about seeding for the upcoming MAC Freedom Tournament.
Wilkes took a 2-1 edge following doubles play.
Sergio De La Garza (Tijuana, Calif.) and
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) were the lone victors at No. 1 doubles as they topped Rodneil Senson and John Toussaint, 8-1.
De La Garza,
Zach Puccia (Red Bank, NJ) and Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) picked up points in singles play at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. De La Garza defeated Cole Gibson, 6-1, 6-3, Puccia defeated Nick Putney, 6-3, 6-4 and Emerson topped Senson, 6-1, 6-0.
Carasso and Toussaint played a tight match at No. 2 singles, but it was Toussaint who earned match point with a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 win.
FDU will host Brooklyn College on Friday afternoon in its final tune-up for the MAC Freedom playoffs.
