Madison, NJ (April 23) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team fell to Misericordia University, 22-6, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup on Robert T. Shields Field this afternoon.
FDU-Florham is now 3-10 overall on the season and 1-5 in MAC Freedom play, while Misericordia improved to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in conference contests.
Misericordia was led by Carson Venis (six goals, three assists, nine points), Jared Pelliccione (four goals, two assists, six points) and Robert Wagner (four goals, two assists, six points) offensively as they combined for 14 of 22 goals on the day.
FDU's
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) and
Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ) both potted two goals on the day for the Devils, while defensively
MacGyver Hay (Mays Landing, NJ) scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.
The Cougars jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Devils found the back of the cage for back-to-back goals late in the first and early in the second.
Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) registered FDU's first goal of the game and Fabin followed it up two minutes into the second quarter.
Misericordia pulled away with seven unanswered goals for a 12-2 lead at the break. In the second half, Nawrocki scored twice for FDU,
Ricky Lewis (Washington, NJ) scored one and Fabin scored once to account for the 22-6 final.
As a team, Misericordia out shot FDU, 69-25, held a 51-35 advantage in ground balls and went 22-for-23 on the clear. FDU went 24-for-35 on clearing attempts and won 13-of-32 faceoffs.
Dan Schlupp (Holland, Pa.) and
Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ) combined for 22 saves in the loss, while Misericordia used four goalkeepers on the day with starter Matt Coates picking up the win with three stops in the opening half.
FDU will travel to Delaware Valley University on Wednesday, April 27 for a MAC Freedom matchup at 7:00 pm.
