Madison, NJ (April 19) – The FDU-Florham men's tennis team improved to 2-1 in MAC Freedom play as the Devils topped DeSales University, 6-3, tonight on the FDU tennis courts.
After tonight's matchup, FDU sits at 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the league, while DeSales fell to 6-4 and 2-2 in conference matches.
The Devils started tonight's match by winning two of three doubles contests for an early 2-1 advantage.
Sergio De La Garza (Tijuana, Calif.) and
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) topped Danny Lynn and Augie Citrone, 8-6, at No. 1, while
Zach Puccia (Red Bank, NJ) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) defeated Philip Ritchie and Will Pollick, 8-6, at No. 2.
FDU secured the match with four wins in singles play, all of which came in straight sets. De La Garza won, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, Puccia won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3, Duval won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 and
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) won, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.
Puccia's win at No. 3 singles over Ritchie gave FDU its fifth point in the match and guaranteed a win for the Devils tonight.
FDU will travel to Lycoming College on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 pm for another MAC Freedom matchup.
