Frederick, Md. (March 26) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team was edged in overtime by Hood College, 11-10, this afternoon on the road.
FDU-Florham (2-5) fought back from a three goal deficit in the fourth quarter with scored four consecutive goals and took a 10-9 lead with just a minute to play in regulation. Hood (5-3), however, answered with the game tying goal with 27-seconds left on the clock and scored the game winning goal in overtime.
The hosts led by a 4-2 margin after one quarter and took their largest lead of the game of four goals at 6-2 early in the second. FDU answered with goals by
Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY),
Zane Johnston (Ridley, Pa.) and
Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.), a 3-0 run that stretched over the halftime break.
Hood regained its three goal advantage early in the fourth, before FDU scored four straight goals for a 10-9 edge. Over the run in the fourth, the Devils received two goals from
Drew Gallagher (Shamong, NJ), one from Stewart and one from Johnston.
Robbie Wiley potted the game tying goal for Hood in the fourth and the game winning goal for the Blazers midway through the overtime session.
Hood held a 46-35 advantage in shots and a 46-28 differential in ground balls. The Devils went 17-for-26 on clearing attempts, while the Blazers won 19-of-23 faceoffs. FDU keeper
Dan Schlupp (Holland, Pa.) took the loss and made 14 saves in the effort, while Hood keeper Alex Dudziak stopped the ball nine times.
FDU will travel to Wilkes University next Saturday to open MAC Freedom play at 1:00 pm.
