Montclair, NJ (March 11) – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team dropped a 21-4 non-conference final at Montclair State University tonight on Sprague Field.
FDU-Florham (0-3) was led by
Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) and
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ), who both posted two goals apiece on the night, while Montclair State (3-2) saw a game-high four goals from Matthew Holland.
Montclair State scored the first 11 goals of the game before Stewart got FDU-Florham on the board with 7:56 to play in the second quarter. After Stewart's goal, the Red Hawks scored eight straight goals for a 19-1 lead. In the final quarter, Stewart scored once and Fabin potted back-to-back goals for the Devils to account for the 21-4 final.
At the faceoff X,
Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY) won the ball on 10-of-25 attempts for the Devils, while David Driscoll won 13-of-19 times for the hosts. As a team, Montclair State held advantages in shots (50-21) and ground balls (42-20). The Devils went 13-of-21 on clearing attempts and 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
In net, FDU keeper
Dan Schlupp (Holland, Pa.) posted 13 saves over the first three quarters of the game, while David Metzger stopped the ball six times for Montclair State.
FDU will host Centenary University (NJ) on Wednesday, March 16 at 4:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
