Men's Basketball Tripped Up at DeSales, 88-53

Center Valley, Pa. (February 5) – DeSales University led from start to finish as the Bulldogs topped the FDU-Florham men's basketball team 88-53 on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action.
 
FDU-Florham (4-17, 0-12 MAC Freedom) was led by Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ), who scored a team-high 16 points and notched a team-high five rebounds in 37 minutes of action for the Devils. DeSales (19-2, 12-1 MAC Freedom) was paced by a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds from Timmy Edwards. DeSales entered action today receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com national poll.
 
Through ten minutes of action, DeSales led by four at 20-16 after both teams traded baskets and after Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY) finished a pass by Gerard Nicholson (Staten Island, NY) in the paint. The hosts, however, put together a 19-2 run that saw their lead balloon from four to 21 points with four minutes to play in the opening stanza. Ortman drained a shot from behind the arc with under a minute on the clock, but DeSales led by a 43-25 score at the break.
 
FDU never got any closer than 17 points early in the second half as DeSales went on for the 88-53 MAC Freedom victory. The Bulldogs posted their largest lead of the game of 35 points on two occasions en route to the win.
 
FDU shot 35.8-percent (19-for-53) from the floor, 30.8-percent (8-for-26) from three point range and 58.3-percent (7-for-12) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 12 points in the paint and received 18 of their points off the bench. DeSales shot 49.3-percent (34-for-69) from the floor, 46.2-percent (12-for-26) from behind the arc and 88.9-percent (8-for-9) from the free throw line. The Bulldogs scored 40 of their 88 points in the paint, received 30 points off the bench and turned 17 FDU turnovers into 22 points.
 
The Devils will return home on Wednesday, February 9 for a MAC Freedom contest against Arcadia University at 8:00 pm.
