Madison, NJ (February 9) – FDU-Florham men's basketball graduate student
Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ) broke the program record for made career three-point shots in tonight's 77-72 setback to Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) rival Arcadia University.
Ortman, who now has 189 career three point baskets, surpassed the old program record of 186 which was set by Adam Katz '12. The graduate student posted 20 points and seven rebounds on 8-for-16 shooting for FDU (4-18, 0-13 MAC Freedom). Three other Devils registered double-digit point totals including
Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) with 12,
Gerard Nicholson (Staten Island, NY) with 11 and
Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) with ten.
Arcadia (10-13, 9-5 MAC Freedom) was led by Samuel Majekodunmi, who tallied a 14 point, 12 rebound double-double. Jalen Watkins added a team-high 15 points, while Dom Vazquez chipped in with 14 points for the visitors.
The Knights jumped out to a 13-5 lead over the first five minutes of action tonight from inside the Ferguson Recreation Center. A quick 6-0 run for the Devils, capped by a layup by
Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) made it a one possession game (16-13) midway through the opening half. With 8:03 left on the clock prior to the break, Arcadia ripped off a 12-2 run opening up its advantage to 15 points at 32-17. The Devils chipped away and a layup by Newman made the score 40-30 in favor of the visitors at halftime.
Arcadia led by 12 (63-51) with 11:29 to play in regulation before FDU posted an 11-2 run that saw a layup by
Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ) cut the Devils deficit to just three at 65-62. The Knights answered however and ballooned their lead back to double digits. Ortman's three with 17 ticks left on the clock made the score 77-72 but it wasn't enough as Arcadia held off FDU in tonight's MAC Freedom matchup.
FDU shot 45.8-percent (27-for-59) from the floor, 25.8-percent (8-for-31) from three point range and 83.3-percent (10-for-12) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 34 points in the paint and 11 points off of Arcadia turnovers. Arcadia shot 54.2-percent (32-for-59) from the floor, 29.4-percent (5-for-17) from three point range and 72.7-percent (8-for-11) from the free throw line. The visitors scored 48 of their 77 points in the paint, received 26 points off the bench and scored 16 points off of FDU turnovers.
FDU will next travel to King's College (Pa.) on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 pm for another MAC Freedom contest.
