Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (February 12) – Tied at 51-51 with 3:37 to play, King's College (Pa.) scored seven of the game's final nine points to hold off FDU-Florham men's basketball in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Saturday afternoon inside Scandlon Gymnasium.
FDU (4-19, 0-14 MAC Freedom) was led by
Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ), who scored 15 points to go along with nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) chipped in with 12 points and three rebounds for the Devils.
King's (7-13, 3-11 MAC Freedom) received 14 points from Noah Tanner as well as 11 points and six rebounds from Collin Cook in the win.
King's jumped out to an early seven point edge (12-5) following a three point bucket by Tanner just over five minutes into the contest. FDU chipped away and a jumper by
Matthew Johnson (Oak Ridge, NJ) eventually tied the game up at 25-25. After an answer by Chris Patton, Johnson converted a three-point play on a layup and free throw as the score stood even at 28-28 through 20 minutes of play.
The second half saw the score tied on six different occasions. Midway through the second, Ortman registered back-to-back shots from behind the arc for FDU's largest lead of the game at eight points (45-37), which came with 9:25 left in regulation. King's answered with a 14-3 run to retake the lead at 51-48 with 4:09 to play. The remaining seven points for the hosts came as free throws as King's earned the 58-53 win and the season sweep over FDU-Florham.
FDU shot 36.5-percent (19-for-52) from the floor, 34.4-percent (11-for-32) from three-point range and 100.0-percent (4-for-4) from the free throw line. The Devils scored eight points in the paint and 12 points off of King's turnovers. The hosts shot 33.3-percent (19-for-57) from the floor, 29.0-percent (9-for-31) from three-point range and 78.6-percent (11-for-14) from the free throw line. The Monarchs scored 14 points in the paint, 31 points off the bench and 14 points off of FDU turnovers.
FDU will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday, February 15 with a MAC Freedom contest in the Ferguson Recreation Center against Stevens at 8:00 pm
