Madison, NJ (February 15) – In its final home game of the 2021-22 season, the FDU-Florham men's basketball team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology, 63-48. Prior to the start of tonight's game, the Devils honored graduate student
Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ) for eclipsing the 1,000 career point plateau.
FDU (4-20, 0-15 MAC Freedom) was paced by
Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ), who scored 18 points in 35 minutes off of the bench, while
Matthew Johnson (Oak Ridge, NJ) chipped in with ten points, six rebounds and two blocks and Ortman added eight points, seven assists and four rebounds in the effort. Stevens (12-8, 11-4 MAC Freedom) received an 11 point, ten rebound double-double by Jack Spellman as well a 12 point, ten assists double-double by Matt Crowley.
FDU took an 11-10 lead following a three point shot by Johnson just 4:07 into the game. Stevens, however, strung together a pair of 14-0 runs for a 38-22 lead at the break. In between the two lengthy runs by the Ducks, FDU was able to put together its own 11-0 run to cut its deficit to just two at 24-22 with 7:48 to play in the stanza.
Stevens maintained its advantaged and led by as many as 25 in the second half (63-38) before the Ducks defeated the Devils by a 63-48 final.
FDU shot 31.6-percent (18-for-57) from the floor and 33.3-percent (12-for-36) from three-point range, while Stevens shot 45.3-percent (24-for-53) from the floor, 38.9-percent (7-for-18) from behind the arc and 88.9-percent (8-for-9) from the free throw line.
The Devils will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 19 at Misericordia University at 3:00 pm. FDU will be the #9 seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom tournament and will travel to King's College on Monday for the 8/9 game at a time to be determined.
