Men's Basketball Posts 65-56 Win Over Pratt

Madison, NJ (February 1) – Tied at 52-52 with less than five minutes to play in regulation, the FDU-Florham men's basketball team scored 12 straight points to secure a 65-56 non-conference win over the Pratt Institute this evening.

FDU (4-16), saw graduate student Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ) score 18 points in a 40 minute effort on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor. Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) added 14 points, Matthew Johnson (Oak Ridge, NJ) scored 12 points and Carson Woods (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied eight points and a team-high eight rebounds for FDU-Florham. 
 
Pratt (4-13), was guided by Cameron Hatcher, who posted a 15 point, 11 rebound double-double and Aaron Nisbett, who notched a 10 point, 10 rebound double-double for the visitors.
 
The Cannoneers jumped out to a 17-6 advantage over the opening eight and a half minutes of play before the Devils put together a run of 13 straight points for a 19-17 edge. The spurt for FDU was sparked by six points by Newman. Pratt tallied back-to-back buckets prior to the break for a 28-24 edge after 20 minutes of play.
 
Both teams traded baskets over the first 15 minutes of the second half before Newman knocked down a pair of free throws giving FDU a lead it not relinquish. Newman's shots at the stripe began a run of 13 consecutive points that eventually pushed the lead to 12 for the homestanding Devils. With a minute to play, FDU hit six of eight shots from the free throw line securing the 65-56 victory.
 
As a team, FDU shot 43.1-percent (22-for-51) from the floor, 24.1-percent (7-for-29) from beyond the arc and 60.9-percent (14-for-23) from the free throw line. Pratt shot 41.0-percent (25-for-61) from the floor, 10.5-percent (2-for-19) from three point land and 57.1-percent (4-for-7) from the free throw line. 

The Devils scored 26 of their 65 points in the paint and 12 points off of 14 Pratt turnovers.

FDU next heads to DeSales University on Saturday, February 5 at 3:00 pm for a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest.
