Men's Basketball Rallies to Defeat Bryn Athyn, 92-86

Bethlehem, Pa. (December 31) – FDU-Florham used five straight three point buckets to climb back from a double digit deficit to defeat Bryn Athyn College, 92-86, in the consolation game of the 2022 Steel Club Tournament at Moravian University this afternoon.

FDU-Florham (2-10) was guided by 21 points from Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ), 15 of which came from behind the arc, as well as 19 points from Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.), who registered 19 points in just his second game back with the Devils this year. Carson Woods (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 12 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the second win of the year for FDU-Florham.

For his efforts throughout the tournament, Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) was named to the 2022 Steel Club All-Tournament Team.
 
Bryn Athyn (5-5) was led by Jamal Cannady Jr. who registered 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Derrick Orr Jr. posted 20 points and three rebounds on the night.
 
Bryn Athyn held a double digit lead for a majority of the opening half, led by as many as 19 at 40-21 before the buzzer sounded and took a 56-45 edge into the break. The Devils shot 41.9-percent from the floor (13-for-31) over the opening 20 minutes of action and hit 13 of 15 shots from the free throw line.

With 5:57 remaining in regulation, FDU-Florham trailed by an 80-69 margin before ripping off a 15-0 run with five straight buckets from behind the arc to take its first lead of the game at 84-80. Nichols began the run before Santana sank three straight three pointers. Newman capped the run with a deep shot that ricocheted off the backboard and into the hoop. The Devils ultimately ended up outscoring Bryn Athyn by a 23-6 margin down the final five minutes of play to earn their second win of the year.
 
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 48.3-percent (29-for-60) from the floor, 42.1-percent (16-for-38) from behind the arc and 81.8-percent (18-for-22) from the free throw line tonight. The Devils registered 26 points in the paint, 17 second chance points and 36 points off the bench.
 
Bryn Athyn shot 45.1-percent (32-for-71) from the floor, 41.9-percent (13-for-31) from behind the arc and 64.3-percent (9-for-14) from the free throw line. Bryn Athyn posted 24 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers and 16 points off the bench.
 
FDU-Florham will return to Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday, January 4 at 5:00 pm with a league game at King's College (Pa.).
