Bethlehem, Pa. (December 30) – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team fell to York College (Pa.) by an 86-57 final in the opening round of the 2022 Steel Club Tournament hosted by Moravian University on Friday evening.
FDU-Florham (1-10) was guided by
Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ), who registered a game-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds, while
Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY) chipped in with 11 points and six boards. York College (5-6) was paced by Jackson Mascari, who tallied a 12 point, 11 rebound double-double for the Spartans.
The game was knotted at 2-2 before York College jumped out to a 14-7 advantage lead over the first seven minutes of tonight's contest. The Spartans did not relinquish their lead for the remainder of the game and led by as many as 18 points in the first half as York took a 39-21 advantage into the break.
FDU-Florham shot at a 54.5-percent clip from the floor in the second half as Nichols found the hoop for 15 of his 18 points over the second 20 minutes of action. York, however, ballooned its lead to as many as 31 points in the second and went on to win the game by an 86-57 final.
As a team, the Devils shot 44.4-percent (20-for-45) from the floor, 47.8-percent (11-for-23) from three point range and 60.0-percent (6-for-10) from the free throw line. FDU-Florham scored 18 points in the paint and nine points off York turnovers.
York College shot 54.1-percent (33-for-61) from the floor, 43.3-percent (13-for-3) from behind the arc and 53.8-percent (7-for-13) from the free throw line. The Spartans scored 34 points in the paint, 30 points off FDU-Florham turnovers and 44 points off the bench.
FDU-Florham will return to Bethlehem, Pa. tomorrow for the consolation game of the Steel Club Tournament against Bryn Athyn College at 3:30 pm.
