Nichols Ties School Record in 81-61 Setback to Wilkes on Saturday

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (December 10) – FDU-Florham junior Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) tied the single game program record with eight three point buckets this afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Devils fell to Wilkes University, 81-61, in a men's basketball MAC Freedom matchup on Saturday in the Marts Center.

Nichols guided FDU-Florham, now 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference this season, with a career-high 33 points, while sophomore Michael Morrissey (Pearl River, NY) tallied the first double-double of his collegiate career with a career-high 13 points and ten rebounds. Lucas Lesko paced Wilkes (6-4, 2-1 MAC Freedom) with 18 points on the day.

Wilkes raced out to a 13-3 lead over the opening five minutes of today's matchup before FDU-Florham answered with an 11-3 run of its own to cut its deficit to just two points at 16-14 midway through the half. The Colonels were able to balloon their lead back to double digits and led by as many as 17 (45-28) before they took a 45-34 lead into the break.

Nichols sank a three pointer to open the scoring in the second half before Wilkes answered with a three of its own. The Colonels led by double digits for the remainder of the game and had their largest lead of the game of 25 points (67-42) en route to the 81-61 win.

FDU-Florham shot 45.5-percent (25-for-55) from the floor, 33.3-percent (9-for-27) from three point range and 100.0-percent (2-for-2) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 26 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers. Wilkes shot 51.6-percent (32-for-62) from the floor, 37.0-percent (10-for-27) from behind the arc and 87.5-percent (7-for-8) from the free throw line. Wilkes scored 40 points in the paint, 23 points off the bench and 23 points off turnovers.

FDU-Florham will head to Moravian University on December 30 for the Steel Club Tournament. The Devils will take on York College (Pa.) in the opener on Friday and either host Moravian or Bryn Athyn on Saturday.
