Doylestown, Pa. (November 5) – The FDU-Florham football team fell to #8 AFCA /14 D3football.com nationally-ranked Delaware Valley University, 42-7, on Saturday afternoon in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup at James Work Memorial Stadium.
FDU-Florham moved to 5-4 overall and to 3-4 in conference play, while Delaware Valley, winners of 44 consecutive MAC contests, improved to 9-0 overall and to 7-0 in the league to win its fifth consecutive conference championship title and earn the MAC's automatic berth to the 2022 NCAA Division III Football Tournament.
The Devils trailed 14-0 after the first quarter as the Aggies scored on a 49-yard touchdown run by quarterback Louis Barros IV and a 29-yard touchdown reception by Nashir Morgan. FDU-Florham took over possession at their own 25-yard line and drove 75 yards in 13 plays and over seven minutes to cut its deficit in half. Devils sophomore quarterback
Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) rushed into the end zone from 9-yards out to make the score 14-7.
Before the half was over, Delaware Valley put the game out of reach with three straight touchdowns including a 69-yard touchdown reception by Dez Austin, an 85-yard touchdown reception by Tahmir Barksdale and a six-yard touchdown run by Barros.
The Aggies added one more score in the third to account for the 42-7 final.
Thomas completed 17 passes for 120 yards and rushed for FDU's lone score of the day. On the ground, Delaware Valley held FDU-Florham to just 53 total yards.
On defense,
Matthew Dougherty (Wilmington, Del.) guided the way for the Devils with seven total tackles, while
Jorden Bennett (Queens, NY) tallied three tackles, one sack and forced a fumble.
FDU-Florham will round out its regular season next Saturday, November 12 at Alvernia University at 1:00 pm.
