Reading, Pa. (November 12) – Led by four passing touchdowns by
Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and three TD receptions by
Connor Perez (Warwick, NY), the FDU-Florham football team defeated Alvernia University, 31-7, in its regular season finale.
For the second straight year, the Devils finished their regular season with a 6-4 record and will await word of a berth in a potential ECAC Bowl Game when the selections are released on Monday afternoon.
Thomas recorded 341 passing yards and four touchdowns with 25 completions in the 31-7 victory, while Perez hauled in a season-high 152 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. FDU-Florham's other touchdown came from
Eric Castorina (Sparta, NJ) for his second score of the season.
Joseph Randazzo (Staten Island, NY) guided the Devils defensive unit with 13 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss, while
Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ) registered five tackles, three tackles for a loss, two sacks, two pass breakups and a quarterback hurry. FDU-Florham held Alvernia to just 12 net rushing yards
After a scoreless first quarter, the Devils drove 77 yards in eight plays over 3:50 minutes as Thomas found Perez for a 34-yard touchdown just 4:01 into the second. FDU-Florham forced Alvernia to punt on its next possession and turned it into seven more points as Thomas completed a 17-yard pass into the endzone to Castorina as the Devils led 14-0 at the break.
The Devils took the ball to open the third and extended their lead to 21-0 in a three yard touchdown pass from Thomas to Perez capping an 80-yard drive that lasted just 2:33. After Alvernia got on the board, FDU-Florham answered with another touchdown pass from Thomas to Perez, this time 34-yards for a 28-7 advantage.
FDU-Florham capped the scoring on a 31-yard field goal by
Chris DiMedio (Cornwall, NY) late in the fourth quarter.
