Madison, NJ (October 27) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team swept King's College by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 28-26 in its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) finale on Thursday evening inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
The Devils, now 11-10 overall on the season ended conference play with a 4-4 record and will travel to fourth-seeded DeSales University for the MAC Freedom Tournament 4/5 Play In Game on Monday, October 31. Monday's game time will be determined tomorrow morning.
Prior to the start of the MAC Freedom Tournament, FDU-Florham will play a non-conference tri-match at Centenary University (NJ) on Saturday morning and will play the host Cyclones at 11:00 am and King's College (NY) at 1:00 pm.
FDU-Florham was paced offensively by
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) as she tied her career-high with 12 kills on the night.
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) also tied career-highs with nine kills and 16 digs in the victory. Defensively, Freeman's 16 digs were the most on the team, while Reiter posted three solo blocks and three assisted blocks for the Devils.
Set 1: King's held a 12-9 edge in the first before FDU-Florham went on a 9-1 run for the 18-13 advantage.
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) registered four service aces and
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) posted a pair of kills over the spurt. Up 18-15, the Devils used a 7-1 set-ending run for the 25-16 win in the opening stanza. The five kills for FDU-Florham to end the set were notched by
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ), Freeman and Reiter.
Set 2: FDU-Florham raced out to a 6-1 lead before King's knotted the second set up at 11-11. The Devils went on a 5-0 run on five errors by the Monarchs to build their lead to five. That five-point advantage until late in the set when two swings by Reiter and one by Everett ended the set 25-17 in favor of the hosts.
Set 3: The Devils jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the third set. King's, however, rallied late and used a 10-4 run to tie the stanza up at 22-22. King's went ahead 26-25 before an error by the Monarchs paired with a kill from Hart and a block by both Hart and
Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) secured the sweep for FDU-Florham.
