Dallas, Pa. (October 25) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team fell to Misericordia University in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 tonight in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest inside Anderson Gymnasium.
Despite the setback, FDU-Florham, now 10-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play, has secured a spot in the 2022 MAC Freedom Tournament as the No. 5 seed for the first time since 2018. Next week, the Devils will be on the road for the 4/5 Play In Game on Monday, October 31 at a time and place to be determined later.
FDU-Florham was paced offensively by
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ), who registered five kills, while defensively both
Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) and
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) both tallied seven digs apiece.
Set 1: The Devils took a 5-4 lead early on following a kill by Fruscione, but Misericordia went on a 16-4 run to retake the lead by a 20-9 margin. Both teams traded points down the stretch but a kill by Rachel LoFaso gave the Cougars the first set 25-16.
Set 2: FDU-Florham once again jumped out to a lead, this time 4-3, before the Cougars ripped off a 9-1 run for a 12-5 edge. The Devils were able to hold their deficit to as few as three points before a quick 4-0 spurt pushed Misericordia's lead to seven at 20-13. A kill by Lena Eldrenkamp gave the hosts a 25-18 set two win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: FDU-Florham raced out to a 9-3 edge in set three and held the lead for most of the stanza. Misericordia trailed 14-8 and tied the set at 15-15 with a 7-1 run. The Devils fought and worked to tie the set back up at 22-22 following a kill by Ros, an ace by Fruscione and an error by the Cougars, but Misericordia scored three straight points all on kills to end the set 25-22 and the match in straight sets.
FDU-Florham will host King's College (Pa.) in its MAC Freedom regular season finale on Thursday, October 27 at 7:00 pm.
