Madison, NJ (January 5) – DeSales University men's basketball shot 71.9-percent from the floor and hit ten of its 13 shots from behind the arc to defeat FDU-Florham, 102-63, on Wednesday evening in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
FDU (3-8, 0-4 MAC Freedom) was led by
Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ), who tallied a team-high 15 points, six rebounds and four assists, while DeSales (13-1, 5-0 MAC Freedom), which was receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com national poll, was guided by Matt Kachelries, who notched a game-high 26 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ) chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds for the Devils. Of its seven student-athletes who competed in tonight's game for DeSales, five scored in double figures as the Bulldogs put together their highest scoring output of the season.
After a tight first ten minutes of action, DeSales put together a 9-0 run that lasted three minutes and pushed its lead to ten at 34-24 following a jumper by Matt Ciskowski. FDU was able to cut its deficit to seven (36-29) after a shot from behind the arc by
Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) but a layup and two free throws by the Bulldogs gave the visitors a double digit lead they would not relinquish.
DeSales, which led by 20 at the break at 54-34, hit 22 of its 28 shots from the floor in the first half (78.6-percent). Over the course of the game, the visitors scored 56 points in the paint and scored 18 points off of FDU turnovers.
The Bulldogs shot 65.5-percent from the floor and 77.8-percent from behind the arc in the second half en route to the 102-63 road victory. FDU was unable to get closer than 20 points in the second stanza (61-41) after a three by Ortman as DeSales went on to win by 39 points.
As a team, FDU shot 40.7-percent from the floor (22-for-54), 33.3-percent (10-for-30) from behind the arc and 75.0-percent (9-for-12) from the free throw line. The Devils also scored 22 of its 63 points in the paint.
FDU is scheduled to host King's College (Pa.) in another MAC Freedom contest on Saturday, January 8 at 3:00 pm in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
