Lancaster, Pa. (September 4) – The FDU-Florham field hockey team fell in its 2021 season opener to No. 2 Franklin & Marshall College, 4-1, this afternoon on the road. Franklin & Marshall came into today's match ranked second in the country after finishing the 2019 season as the national runner-up.

First Quarter:
- Franklin & Marshall scored the only goal of the opening quarter as Sophie Carroll tucked the ball into the cage off a feed from Maddie Bickel just six minutes into the contest.
Second Quarter:
- The Devils registered their first and second shots of the game early in the second ultimately leading to a tie game. Rebecca Steinberger (Hazlet, NJ) ripped a shot on cage and was saved by Sydney Lippe, but just 16 seconds later, Ashley Moskal (Washington, NJ) finished a pass from sister Sydney Moskal (Washington, NJ) for the 1-1 tie.
- The hosts went into the break up 2-1 after Kat Horsley converted a penalty stroke with midway through the stanza.
Third Quarter:
- Franklin & Marshall out shot FDU 8-0 in the third quarter and found the back of the net twice putting the game out of reach. Bickel found Carroll once again in the 31st minute and less than two minutes later Carolina Riley posted her first goal of the year.
The Stat Line:
- FDU's Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Emily Prachthauser (Morristown, NJ) shared time in goal. Over the opening 45 minutes of play, March stopped the ball ten times and in the final quarter Practhauser made one save in her collegiate debut.
