Wayne, NJ (September 29) – A goal by William Paterson with less than three minutes to play in regulation was the difference tonight as the Pioneers edged the FDU-Florham field hockey, 2-1.
Records: FDU (6-3); William Paterson (6-2)
Location: Wightman Stadium
FDU Goal Scorer: Dominique Rodriguez (4)
Both teams scored in the first four minutes of tonight's match. Just 2:28 in, William Paterson struck first as Kelsie Murphy finished a pass in front of the cage by Abigail Viola for the early 1-0 lead. The lead did not stick around for long as FDU answer 1:13 later when
Dominique Rodriguez (Pittsgrove, NJ) drove through the William Paterson defense and ripped a shot into the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the year.
In the middle quarters there were a total of two shots taken between the two teams, both of which were registered by FDU-Florham senior
Emilee Vizzuso (Montville, NJ).
With 2:03 left in regulation, William Paterson tallied what proved to be the game winning goal. Murphy took a shot and it was saved by
Emily Prachthauser (Morristown, NJ), but Viola poked the ball into the cage off the save for the 2-1 edge.
With ten seconds to play, FDU was awarded a penalty corner and
Sydney Moskal (Washington, NJ) looked to send the game into overtime, but her attempt was saved by William Paterson keeper Emily Hogland.
As a team, FDU out shot William Paterson 8-4 (WP led in SOG 4-3) and held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. Prachthauser made two saves in the complete game effort for the Devils.
FDU will host King's College (Pa.) in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup on Friday, October 1 at 7:00 pm.
