Madison, NJ (September 29) – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team fell just short tonight as the Devils fell 2-1 to Cairn University in its final non-conference regular season matchup of the 2021 season.

The match was scoreless until the 37th minute as Cairn found the back of the net twice in a span of three minutes. Josh Goodyear finished a free kick by Jarek Underation from 25 yards out and then Goodyear crossed the ball to Jayson Fields who finished the pass into the left side of the net.


In the 63rd minute, FDU had two great looks at breaking up the shutout bid by Cairn. Following a corner kick, the Devils hit the cross bar and the post on back-to-back shots. Just six minutes later, FDU did in fact score its first goal of the match when Billy Farnan (Ocean City, NJ) fired the ball into the back of the net after Cairn keeper Kameron Clark misplayed the ball.

The Devils nearly tied the match at 2-2 with under three minutes to play in regulation of a header by Oliver Trujillo (Bridgewater, NJ). The ball appeared to go into the top corner of the net but was pushed away by the Clark and the Cairn defense.
 
FDU out shot Cairn, 23-12 (9-6 on net) and held a 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Clark made eight saves for the visitors and pushed his record to 4-1-2, while FDU keeper Tiernan Grey (Staten Island, NY) stopped the ball four times for the hosts.

The Devils will travel to Wilkes University for its first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup of the season on Saturday, October 2. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 pm in Wilkes Barre, Pa.
