Flukey Leads FDU Field Hockey to 2-1 Win at DeSales in MAC Freedom Opener

Center Valley, Pa. (September 25) – FDU-Florham field hockey senior Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ) led the Devils to a 2-1 win over DeSales University in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Records: FDU (6-2, 1-0 MACF), DeSales (4-4, 0-1 MACF)
Location: DeSales Turf Field
FDU Goal Scorers: Haleigh Flukey (5, 6)

How It Happened:
  • Flukey registered FDU's first goal of the game and her fifth of the season in the 19th minute. The senior took back-to-back penalty corners before Sydney Moskal (Washington, NJ) fed the ball to Flukey, who buried into the back of the cage for the early lead.

  • FDU doubled its advantage in the third quarter. Flukey ripped a shot at the cage, but it was saved by a DeSales defender. On the very next play, Flukey was awarded a penalty stroke and converted it for her second goal of the game

  • DeSales cut its deficit in half less than 30-seconds after Flukey's second goal as Ashlee Jopp found Tyra Wingle to make the score 2-1 in favor of the visitors.

  • In the fourth quarter, DeSales out shot FDU 4-0 in an attempt to tie the game, but Devils keeper Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) made three huge saves securing the 2-1 win for FDU in its MAC Freedom opener.
