Mahwah, NJ (September 24) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team fell to Ramapo College in straight sets to open the 2021 Ramapo College Tournament tonight on the road. The Roadrunners won the matchup by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.

Set One:
- The opening set was tied eight different occasions before Ramapo pulled away late to take it set, 25-17. FDU trailed by only three at 19-16, but the Roadrunners went on a 6-1 run to end the set.
Set Two:
- Much like the first set, the second was even until about halfway through. The Devils trailed by just one at 15-14, but Ramapo went on an 8-3 run to go ahead 23-17. A kill by Caleigh Gobalek and an ace by Hannah Mctighe gave Ramapo at 2-0 lead in the match.
Set Three:
- FDU trailed early 12-7, but ripped off a huge 11-3 run to go ahead 18-5 which forced the hosts to call a timeout. In the run, the Devils received three kills from both Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) and Abigail Rock (Stewartsville, NJ) in addition to an ace by Erin Ahart (Kennelon, NJ), two kills by Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) and a kill by Sophia Miskulin (New Providence, NJ).
- Ramapo, however, rallied with a 9-1 run of its own taking a 24-19 lead. The Roadrunners had three match points fought off by FDU but an error on the fourth attempt by FDU gave Ramapo the set 25-22 and the three set sweep.
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) led the way for FDU with nine kills, while Ahart dished out 19 assists. On the defensive side of the ball, Fruscione paced FDU with 13 digs.
As a team, Ramapo edged FDU in kills (37-34), aces (7-4), blocks (6-4), assists (34-33) and digs (66-63).
FDU will return to Mahwah for day two of the Ramapo Tournament tomorrow morning. The Devils will play Mount Saint Mary's at 11:00 am and Brooklyn College at 1:00 pm.
