Madison, NJ (September 22) – A penalty kick goal by
Oliver Trujillo (Bridgewater, NJ) was the difference tonight as the FDU-Florham men's soccer team came from behind to defeat Albright College, 2-1, on Robert T. Shields Field.
Records: FDU (5-2-1), Albright (2-5-1)
Location: Robert T. Shields Field
FDU Goal Scorers: Jonathan Shirley (1),
Oliver Trujillo (4)
After a scoreless opening half, Albright broke the 0-0 tie in the 52nd minute when Yaniv Gonyoe registered an unassisted goal as he drove through the FDU defense and slipped the ball into the back left corner of the net for the lead.
FDU knotted the match up less than five minutes later when
Ricky La Stella (Bridgewater, NJ) played the ball from the right side to a sliding
Jonathan Shirley (Lincoln Park, NJ), who notched his first goal of the season and the first goal of his career.
Penalty kicks were the decided factor in this match. Albright was awarded a PK, but
Tiernan Grey (Staten Island, NY) came up huge for the Devils with a diving save on Alexander MacDonald's attempt. FDU was then awarded a penalty kick and the Devils did not miss as Trujillo scored what proved to be the game winner and his team leading fourth goal of the season. FDU is now 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this fall.
Both teams took 12 shots in the 90-minute contest, while FDU held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks. Grey (5-2-1) made four saves in net for the Devils.
FDU will travel to Gwynedd Mercy University for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, September 25 at 3:00 pm.
