Montclair, NJ (September 22) – The FDU-Florham field hockey team came up just short tonight on the road as the Devils were edged by Montclair State University, 2-1.

After a scoreless opening 17:54 of play, Montclair State put pressure on FDU with four penalty corners and five shots on cage over the next minute of play. Following a penalty corner by Gab Maisto, Carlie Van Tassel tipped the ball into the back of the cage off a shot by Lindsey Bicher.
Van Tassel and Bicher connected once again on the exact same play with less than two minutes to play in the opening half as Montclair State took a 2-0 lead into the break.
FDU scored its lone goal of the game with less than three minutes to play in the third quarter. The Devils were awarded a penalty corner, which was taken by
Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ), before
Rachel McHale (Montville, NJ) registered her first goal of the season and the first goal of her collegiate career.
The hosts held FDU to zero shots in the final quarter as Montclair State came away with the 2-1 win in tonight's regional battle. FDU keeper
Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) made nine saves in the cage for the Devils.
Montclair State held a 22-10 advantage in shots and a 16-4 margin in penalty corners.
FDU will open up Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Saturday, September 25 as the Devils travel to DeSales University for a matchup slated to begin at noon.
