Field Hockey Wins Fifth Straight; Downs Union, 3-1

Schenectady, NY (September 18) – The FDU-Florham field hockey team pushed its winning streak to five games as the Devils topped Union College (NY) in a non-conference matchup on the road this afternoon.

FDU Goal Scorers: Dominique Rodriguez (3), Emilee Vizzuso (4), Megan Surgent (1)
 
Second Quarter:
  • After a scoreless first 15 minutes of action, FDU first-year Dominique Rodriguez scored the first goal of the game just 1:08 into the second quarter. Megan Surgent (Wall, NJ) passed the ball to Rodriguez, who tallied her first goal of the season and first goal of her career.
     
  • About four minutes later, Lauren Nawrotzki (Flemington, NJ) found the stick of Emilee Vizzuso (Montville, NJ), who registered her team-leading fourth goal of the year for the 2-0 edge heading into halftime.
Third Quarter:
  • Union scored its first goal of the game midway through the third quarter on an unassisted strike by Katherine Sadak.
     
  • The Devils answered, however, and after two penalty corners, Sydney Moskal (Washington, NJ)passed the ball to Surgent to account for FDU's third goal. Surgent finished the day with her first collegiate goal and first collegiate assist.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Union out shot FDU by a 3-1 margin over the final 15 minutes, but the FDU defense held off the hosts for the road victory. 
FDU keeper Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) made four saves in the complete game effort in the cage for the Devils. FDU also held a slim 9-7 edge in shots and a 9-7 differential in penalty corners.
 
The Devils will travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday, September 22 for a non-conference match at 7:00 pm.
