Box Score Wilkes Barre, Pa. (September 12) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team sent six student-athletes to the 2021 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championship this weekend.
In the No. 1 singles bracket,
Nicole DelRosso (Summit, NJ) was seeded third, but fell to Elsa Ostermarker of York College, 7-5, 6-3 in the opening round. In the No. 2 singles bracket
, Kayla Dello Iacono (Moodus, Conn.), defeated Braelan Drollas of King's College, 6-1, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals but fell to top-seeded Audrey Heaberlin of Stevens, 6-2, 7-5. Heaberlin ended up reaching the championship match in the bracket.
In the No. 3 singles bracket,
Erin Weller (Pitman, NJ) was seeded third and topped Marisa Cocca of Albright, 6-0, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinal round, but she was defeated by Rebekah Scheaffer of Messiah, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 4 singles bracket, fourth-seeded
Maggie Cronkhite (Deep River, Conn.) was edged by Angela Tozzi, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in the opening round. In the No. 5 singles bracket,
Amy Mayo (Long Branch, NJ) forced the match to three sets but Sarah Stettler from King's came from a set down to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-8.
In the No. 6 singles bracket
Marina Lemin (Caldwell, NJ) dropped her opening round match to Lauren Vasalli of Misericordia, 6-0, 6-0.
In the No. 1 doubles bracket, DelRosso and Weller fell in their opening round match to Ostermarker and Lauren Ostermann of York, 8-6. In the No. 2 doubles bracket, Dello Iacono and Cronkhite were defeated by second-seeded Heaberlin and Juliette Marchisio of Stevens. Marchisio won the No. 6 singles championship.
Mayo and Lemin were the lone victors for FDU-Florham in doubles action as they edged Macie Littleton and Angie Gaglio of Albright, 9-8 (7-2). In the quarterfinal round, the duo from FDU-Florham fell to Abbey DeLisio and Kendall Halsey of Lebanon Valley, 8-2.
FDU-Florham will return to Madison for its next match as the Devils will host New Jersey City University on Wednesday, September 15 at 3:00 pm.
