Men's Basketball Drops Home Game to DeSales University, 75-49

MADISON, NJ (February 19, 2021)- FDU Men's Basketball played host to DeSales University at the Ferguson Recreation Center on Friday night, dropping a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom match-up, 75-49. With the loss, the Devils fall to 0-3 (0-3) while the Bulldogs improve their record to 3-0 (3-0).
 
First Half
DeSales controlled the game from the tip, scoring the first 11-points, before Senior, Oliver Ortman got FDU on the board with a three. The Devils put together back-to-back triples, with first-year Gerard Nicholson pulling FDU within five at 11-6 with 14:07 remaining. Both teams would exchange two-point baskets over the next two-minutes, before the Bulldogs hit back-to-back three's, bringing the lead back to double digits. Ortman ended the mini run, with his seventh point in the first 10-minutes. Back and forth the game went, DeSales holding a 26-15 lead after a first-year, Shawn Summers Jr. jumper at 8:53. Sophomore, Tommy Drubulis kept the game at 11-points, 29-18, less than one-minute later, with his first three of the game.
 
The Bulldogs extended the lead to 15-points with a little over four remaining in the half, oustscoring FDU down the stretch, 9-2, taking a 46-26 lead into the break. Ortman led all FDU scorers with nine-points in the half.
 
Second Half
A free throw from first-year Matthew Johnson got the scoring going for FDU in the second, before DeSales Timmy Edwards got the Bulldogs on the board. DeSales extended their lead to 25-points at the 11:53 mark in the second half, but the Devils didn't quit. A three-point basket by first-year, Michael Dabas got the run started for FDU, before Johnson, Ortman and first-year, Brian Nichols, who scored an old school three-point play, extended the run to 9-0. With the lead down to 16, DeSales regained control of the game.
 
Down the stretch, the Bulldogs kept their lead above twenty, taking the game, 75-49.
 
Lead Devils
Summers Jr. and Ortman led the way for FDU, Oli finishing with 11-points and two assists and Summers adding 10-points on 3-of-6 (50%) from the field.
 
Next Up
The Devils return to the floor tomorrow, February 20, when they travel to DeSales University for the second game of their MAC Freedom back-to-back. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 4:00 pm. Stream it live on fdudevils.com.
