CENTER VALLEY, PA (February 20, 2021)- FDU Men's Basketball traveled to DeSales University on Saturday night, dropping the second game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom back-to-back, 104-54. With the loss, the Devils fall to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the MAC Freedom Conference while the Bulldogs improve to 4-0 overall and in the conference.
First Half
DeSales jumped out to an early nine-point lead just two-minutes into the contest, before senior
Oliver Ortman got the Devils on the board with a basket in the paint. Ortman followed that up with another bucket less than a minute later. After a Bulldog three, first-year
Matthew Johnson knocked down a tripled of his own to cut the DSU lead to eight, 15-7 with 15:36 remaining in the half. After two straight baskets from DSU, it was Johnson again, this time hitting from inside the paint and knocking down a free throw at the line. Ortman would add two free throws at the 13:41 mark, keeping the deficit to 10, 21-11 at 13:41. It was Ortman again responding to a DeSales bucket at the 12:33 mark, keeping the game tight. After a Johnson basket at 9:58 and DeSales with a 10-point lead, the Bulldogs took over. In the final 10-minutes of the half, DSU outscored the Devils, 18-10, holding a halftime lead of 46-28.
Second Half
The second half of play started back and forth, with each teaming knocking down buckets in the first minute. Down 22, Ortman went on a mini run, knocking down a three and two within minutes of each other, to cut into the DeSales lead. Frist-year
Michael Dabas got in on the action, connecting on his first triple of the game at 17:10, getting the lead back down to 16. Again, DSU didn't let up, controlling play over the game's final 15-minutes, ending the game with a 104-54 victory.
Lead Devil
Johnson led all Devils scorers for the third game this season, finishing the day with 18-points on 6-of-13 (45%) from the field.
Familiar Feeling
Oli, the team's leading returner in 2021, ended the contest with 16-points in 36 minutes of play.
