DiMedio Breaks Field Goal Record; Randazzo Shines on Defense as Devils Top Alvernia, 34-14

Madison, NJ (November 6) – For just the fourth time in program history, the FDU-Florham football team has earned six wins in a single season as today the Devils topped Alvernia University, 34-14, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup on Robert T. Shields Field.

Previously, FDU posted six or more wins in a single season back in 2018 (6-4), 1993 (8-3) and 1988 (6-2). The Devils, who are now 6-3 on the season and 5-2 in MAC games, will have a chance at win number seven next week in the regular season finale at home against Stevenson University. A win next week would secure a spot for the Devils in the MAC-Centennial Bowl for the first time in program history.

On the opening kickoff of today's game Adrian Reese II (Indianapolis, Ind.) returned the ball 87 yards all the way down to the two yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Alnazir Blackman (Irvington, NJ) gave the Devils an early edge with a two yard touchdown run as FDU led 7-0 just 36 seconds into the contest.

On their first offensive possession of the game, the Golden Wolves drove 58 yards on nine plays and knotted the score up at 7-7 following a seven yard touchdown pass as quarterback Kevin Washington found Saul Nixon in the back of the endzone.

FDU took advantage of a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on its next drive, which stretched 75 yards and 4:07 minutes. Anthony Caserta (Bronx, NY) found Connor Perez (Warwick, NY) for a two yard touchdown reception for the 14-7 lead.

After short possessions by both Alvernia and FDU, the Golden Wolves took over with 13 seconds to play in the first. Alvernia's drive stretched into the second quarter as the visitor's, in just over four minutes got the ball all the way down to the eight yard line. Lorenzo Green rushed for seven yards on first down and then on three consecutive plays, the FDU defense stopped Alvernia from getting into the end zone as the Devils forced a fourth down turnover.

FDU took over on the one yard line and put together a 99 yard drive that lasted seven minutes and that was capped by a six yard touchdown run by Blackman, his second TD of the game. Alvernia answered however with a quick three play drive on the ensuing possession as the score stood at 21-14 at halftime.

The only points scored in the third quarter came as field goals from Chris DiMedio (Cornwall, NY). DiMedio broke the single season program record with his pair of field goals today as he now has ten on 12 attempts this fall. DiMedio's first attempt, which came to be following an 80 yard interception return by Joseph Randazzo (Staten Island, NY), was from 32 yards out and his second was from 20 yards away.

Caserta and Perez hooked up for a one yard touchdown pass with less than four minutes to play as the Devils won today's contest by a 34-14 final.

Randazzo had an outstanding game on the defensive side of the ball as he registered 16 tackles (two for a loss), one sack, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and the 80 yard interception return. Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ), who added seven tackles and a sack today for FDU, will need just one sack next week against Stevenson to break the single season program record.

Blackman had a season-high 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground today for the Devils, while Perez caught his 14th and 15th touchdowns of the season from Caserta. FDU also continued its dominance from the red zone as the Devils went 6-for-6 on its attempts from inside the 20-yard line this afternoon.

FDU (6-3, 5-2 MAC) will welcome Stevenson University for Senior Day next week, Saturday, November 13. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field. As part of next week's game, FDU will be partnering with the Devils Care Food Pantry. All fans are encouraged to bring two non-perishable canned goods and in return will be admitted free into next week's regular season finale.
