Reading, Pa. (November 28) – Alvernia University outscored FDU-Florham 27-4 in the third quarter to pull away for a 71-37 non-conference win over the Devils on Sunday afternoon inside of Alvernia's Physical Education Center.
FDU (0-6) was led by
Arian Coleman (Camden, NJ) who posted 14 points and six steals, while Alvernia (3-2) was paced by Kayla Williams, who tallied 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Devils had an early 5-2 lead before Alvernia scored eight straight for a 10-5 edge following a layup by Taliyah Malone. The hosts led by a 12-9 score after ten minutes of play. The second quarter saw the score even on five occasions before Alvernia went on a 10-4 run guided by points from four different student-athletes over the final 1:34 of the half for a 29-23 lead at the break.
FDU and Alvernia traded baskets over the first two minutes of the third before the Golden Wolves took advantage of eight turnovers by the Devils and scored 21 straight points for a 29 point advantage (56-27) at the end of three.
Alvernia registered its largest lead of the game at 37 points (71-34) following a layup by Chenoa Bernhardt with 2:06 to play as the Golden Wolves went on to win it by a 71-37 final.
The Golden Wolves led statistically in rebounds (51-30), assists (19-6), blocks (3-1) and steals (16-10). As a team, FDU shot 23.9-percent (11-for-46) from the floor, 20.0-percent (3-for-15) from beyond the arc and 50.0-percent (12-for-24) from the free throw line.
FDU will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday, December 1 at 6:00 pm for its first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest of the 2021-22 season.
