Scranton, Pa. (November 13) – In their 2021-22 season opener, the FDU-Florham women's basketball team was edged by Marywood University by a 51-48 final on Saturday evening in Pennsylvania.
 
Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, NJ) and Tamyah Jones (Dover, Del.) led the way with 12 points apiece, while Cassidy Miller (Roxbury, NJ) and Jayda Bing (Hamilton, NJ) each pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
FDU raced out to a 7-0 lead over the first four minutes of the opening quarter thanks to a pair of deep three's by Downey and a free throw by Jones. The hosts chipped away at the early run and eventually took a 10-8 late in the stanza. A layup by Stephanie Klemic gave Marywood a 12-10 edge at the conclusion of the first quarter.
 
The Devils outscored the Paces 18-11 in quarter number two and had their largest lead of the game of nine points following a driving layup by Jones. A pair of free throws by the Pacers with four seconds on the clock moved FDU's lead to five at 28-23 at the break.
 
With 3:51 to play, FDU led by just two at 46-44. Marywood's Jade Roldon tied the game up at 46-46 with a layup and the hosts took the lead for good at 48-46 after a jumper by Klemic. The Devils had a chance to tie the game at 50-50 following a pair of missed free throws by the Pacers with nine seconds to play, but FDU couldn't convert its shots as Marywood held on for the 51-48 win.
 
FDU (0-1) will play at Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, November 16 at 7:00 pm in its next contest.
