Late Rally Comes Up Short as Women's Basketball Falls to Rutgers-Newark, 62-55

Newark, NJ (November 16) – FDU-Florham women's basketball scored 24 points over the final 15 minutes of today's game, but the rally came up just short as the Devils fell to Rutgers-Newark University, 62-55, in a non-conference matchup in the Golden Dome on Tuesday evening.
 
FDU-Florham (0-2) saw three student-athletes in double digits tonight paced by a 12 point effort by senior Brielle Fedo (Lake Hopatcong, NJ). Both junior Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, NJ) and sophomore Tamyah Jones (Dover, Del.) tallied 11 points apiece. Junior Cassidy Miller (Roxbury, NJ) posted a game-high 11 boards in the effort for the Devils. Rutgers-Newark (2-2) was led by Samiyah Horton, who registered a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and ten steals.
 
The Devils scored the first seven points of the contest on four points by senior Arian Coleman (Camden, NJ)and three by first-year Kiley Drezek (Seymour, Conn.) as FDU-Florham led 11-8 after one quarter. Rutgers-Newark took its first lead of the game at 12-11 following a three pointer by Syncere Lambert 1:22 into the second quarter and proceeded to outscore the Devils 21-9 in the stanza. The hosts led 30-20 at the break.
 
Rutgers-Newark maintained its advantage through three quarters, before FDU began its rally. The Devils shot 10-for-16 (62.5-percent) from the floor and hit four shots from behind the arc as the visitors were able to cut their deficit all the way back to just three points at 58-55 following a 12-4 run that began with a jumper by Fedo and that was capped by a deep three by Downey. 

The hosts converted four free throws down the stretch as the Scarlet Raiders hung on to defeat the Devils, 62-55.
 
As a team, FDU held a 53-42 advantage in rebounds including a 37-27 edge on the defensive boards, and held an 18-12 margin in points in the paint. The difference for Rutgers-Newark came as the Scarlet Raiders scored 29 points off of FDU turnovers in tonight's game. 

FDU shot 33.3-percent from the floor (20-for-60), 25.9-percent (7-for-27) from behind the arc and 47.1-percent (8-for-17) from the free throw line. 

The Devils will head to Hunter College on Thursday, November 18 for a non-conference contest at 5:00 pm before they open their home schedule on Saturday, November 20 at 7:00 against William Paterson University inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
 
Note: The women's basketball game vs. William Paterson University was moved from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm due to the FDU football team hosting an ECAC Bowl Game at 12:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
