Madison, NJ (November 10) – Two goals by senior Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ) were the difference today as the FDU-Florham field hockey team topped Cabrini University, 2-1, in the opening round of the 2021 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament. 

With the win, FDU improved to 11-8 overall and will face off with Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) rival Misericordia University in the semifinal round on Saturday, November 13 at 2:00 pm on the campus of Ramapo College.
 
Flukey posted the first goal of the game and her 14th of the year just 9:05 into the contest as she finished a crossing feed from Emilee Vizzuso (Montville, NJ). Both teams just off one shot in the first quarter as FDU held a 1-0 edge after 15 minutes.
 
Cabrini knotted the game up at 1-1 after Olivia Sims connected with Allison Martin in the 22nd minute. The Cavaliers took five shots over the opening half of the second quarter, while FDU had three chances at corners prior to the break but the score stood even at one.
 
Three consecutive penalty corners late in the third set up what proved to be the game winning goal. With less than three minutes to play in the stanza, Flukey fired a shot at Courtney Keith that was saved and then Ashley Moskal (Washington, NJ) ripped a shot that was saved by a Cabrini defender.

With 1:16 left in the quarter a penalty stroke was called in favor of the Devils. Flukey stepped to the dot and converted the stroke for the 2-1 edge. Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) made a pair of saves in the fourth keeping Cabrini off the board and securing the 2-1 quarterfinal win.
