Moskal Sends Field Hockey into ECAC Title Game; Devils Top Misericordia in OT, 2-1

Mahwah, NJ (November 13) – A goal by Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Rookie of the Year Ashley Moskal (Washington, NJ) three minutes into the first overtime session, sent the FDU-Florham field hockey team to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship game. The Devils, who had previously lost twice to Misericordia this season, got revenge over the Cougars with today's 2-1 win.

FDU (12-8), which previously made the ECAC finals in both 2012 and 2017, will play against top seeded Ramapo College tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm for the championship title, while Misericordia sees its season come to a close with an overall record of 14-8.

Olivia Kempf, who tallied her sixth goal of the season this afternoon, scored the first goal of the game just 39 seconds into the second quarter. FDU had a chance to tie the game prior to the break, by Moskal's shot off a penalty corner sailed wide.

After a scoreless third quarter, FDU found the equalizer with 1:14 left to play in regulation. Following a penalty corner by Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ) and a shot by Moskal that was saved by the Misericordia keeper, Megan Surgent (Wall, NJ) scored the game tying goal. Surgent's goal was her second of the season and first since September 18.

An unassisted strike three minutes into the overtime session by Moskal was the difference as her eighth goal of the season secured a spot in the ECAC Championship game for the Devils.

Both teams got off just five shots in today's contest, while the Cougars held an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners. In addition, both keepers in Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Olivia Gretz made two saves apiece in the semifinal match.
