Madison, NJ (October 9) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team split its matches in today's tri match inside the Ferguson Recreation Center against crosstown rival Saint Elizabeth and Kean University. The Devils opened up with a 25-9, 25-8, 25-5 win against Saint Elizabeth, but fell in the nightcap to Kean by scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-14.
The split today pushed FDU's record to 10-9 on the season.
vs. Saint Elizabeth:
FDU hit a season-best .384 in the opener today against crosstown rival Saint Elizabeth and spread the offense out pretty evenly as the Devils were led by
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ),
Sophia Miskulin (New Providence, NJ) and
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ), who all tallied six kills.
Abigail Rock (Stewartsville, NJ) added five kills to the winning effort, while
Amanda Ciszewski (Wayne, NJ) and
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) both tallied four kills on the day.
Tied at 4-4 in the first set, FDU went on an 18-3 run to ahead 22-7 en route to an eventual 25-9 opening set win. FDU hit .333 (12-4-24) in the opening stanza and was guided by Fruscione, who had four kills in the first set.
The Devils went up 14-2 in the second and took the set by a final score of 25-8. A swing by Miskulin ended a brief run by the visitors and closed the set. The Devils hit .385 in the second and were led by DeFuria and Rock, who notched three kills apiece.
FDU scored 18 of the first 19 points in the third and closed the set with a 25-5 win. The match ending run featured kills by Ciszewski and Rock, an ace by Everett and an error by the visitors.
As a team, FDU led statistically in kills (35-11), aces (15-0), blocks (4-2) and assists (32-11).
vs. Kean:
In the second match of the day, FDU was led by DeFuria and Rock, who both posted five kills piece, while defensively,
Jessica Garreffa (Chatham, NJ) tallied 19 digs.
In the first set, Kean jumped out to an 8-2 lead. FDU got back as close as seven points at 16-9 but an 8-0 spurt gave the visitors set point. The Devils got kills by Rock and Fruscione, but an error by FDU secured the opening set for Kean, 25-13.
Tied at 4-4 in the second, Kean scored six straight points for a 9-4 edge and never looked back. The Cougars scored nine of the set's final 11 points for a 25-12 win in set two and a 2-0 lead in the match. The third, much like the first, saw Kean jump out to an 8-2 lead and the visitors went on for a 25-14 set three win to complete the three set sweep.
FDU will host Delaware Valley on Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 pm. Prior to the match, the Devils will celebrate senior night.
