Volleyball Earns Senior Night Win Over Delaware Valley

Madison, NJ (October 12) – Led by three student-athletes with double digit kills, the FDU-Florham volleyball team picked up a four set Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) win over Delaware Valley tonight.

Prior to the match, the Devils honored Jessica Garreffa (Chatham, NJ) and Stephanie Barbosa (Newark, NJ) in a Senior Night ceremony. The win pushed FDU's record to 11-9 overall and to 2-4 in MAC Freedom play.

Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ) registered her ninth double double of the season with 15 kills and 19 digs, while Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) notched 13 kills to go along with nine digs and Abigail Rock (Stewartsville, NJ) tallied ten kills and three digs.

Defensively on top of DeFuria's match-high 19 digs, Gareffa notched 18 digs, Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) had 17 digs, and Erin Ahart (Kennelon, NJ) had 14 digs.

Up by just three in the opening set, FDU went on a 7-3 run to win it 25-18 for the early lead in the all important conference match. Fruscione tallied three kills and an ace in the set ending run.

Trailing 5-4 early in the second, FDU scored seven straight points thanks to four errors by the visitors, two aces by DeFuria and a block by Amanda Ciszewski (Wayne, NJ). That run gave FDU the lead it would need as the Devils went on to win the second 25-15.

FDU climbed from a six point deficit late in set number three to tie it at 19-19, but it was Delaware Valley which edged the Devils 25-23, forcing a fourth set. FDU led from start to finish in the fourth and final set. A kill by Rock and an error by the visitors secured the victory for the Devils tonight. FDU hit a match-high .351 in the final set with 15 kills on 37 swings.

As a team, FDU edged Delaware Valley in kills (50-36), aces (10-6), blocks (7-6) and assists (49-34).

FDU will travel to Lehman College on Thursday, October 14 for a non-conference matchup beginning at 7:00 pm.
